Development of the product lines
bellvita has been successfully offering the classic and lightline waterbeds since 2001. Both are by far bellvita's best-selling waterbeds and have proven themselves over the years. The quality vinyl used for these not only complies with the strict EN-71 Part 3 standards that apply to the manufacture of children's toys, but even exceeds them.
In 2007, bellvita developed the silverline waterbeds, which are made from special vinyl using the phthalate-free plasticiser Mesamoll® II, developed by Lanxess, exclusively and not just as a component, as is the case with some other waterbed manufacturers. The components of bellvita waterbeds are continuously tested and certified by an independent institute and by Lanxess on an ongoing basis.
Mesamoll® II plasticiser for silverline and premiumline
The use of the plasticiser Mesamoll II in the manufacture of our premium and silverline waterbeds guarantees not only a very long life expectancy, but also that it is completely DEHP-free and therefore phthalate-free, which means that the vinyl sheet for the waterbed mattresses is free of heavy metals and completely harmless to health. By fulfilling the EN-71 Part 9 standard, it is particularly suitable for products that come into close contact with the skin.
Advantages and disadvantages of Mesamoll® II
Advantages
The use of Mesamoll 2 for waterbeds offers many advantages, one of the main benefits being its higher tensile strength and elongation at break. In short: the waterbed remains soft and elastic for longer with this vinyl film. In addition, the waterbed made with Mesamoll 2 vinyl has a much longer service life because the plasticiser used does not volatilise. The result is that the waterbed made with Mesamoll 2 is still more elastic even after years and the vinyl hardly hardens at all. The welded seams - of waterbeds made with this phthalate-free plasticiser - are also very hard-wearing and resilient even after many years thanks to the properties of Mesamoll 2.
Disadvantages
There are therefore almost only advantages, but also a disadvantage with waterbeds made with Mesamoll. Firstly, the colouring of the vinyl is not as durable as that of waterbeds made without this special phthalate-free plasticiser. Heat can cause it to volatilise, especially in the area where the waterbed heater is located, and the colouring in the vinyl may be lost. But there is no need to worry, this is usually only a visual defect and does not affect the waterbed or its durability.
Vinyl film and cover
premiumline and silverline
The bellvita silverline waterbeds are coloured silver-grey for better differentiation, while the vinyl foil of the waterbeds in our bellvita premiumline is coloured black or light green for differentiation. Another disadvantage of using Mesamoll 2 for waterbeds is the price. This vinyl sheet for waterbeds and waterbed mattresses is around 1/3 more expensive to produce than conventional quality vinyl. In addition, the nonwovens of the bellvita silverline are connected to each other and thus secured against slipping. In the premiumline, these are also connected to the water core, which also guarantees a long service life, but also means at least a third more expense in the manufacture and production of our waterbeds. These high material and production costs for a waterbed justify the higher price, which, however, also generally comes with a significantly longer life expectancy for the waterbed, well beyond the guarantee period.
classicline
The bellvita classicline waterbeds already come with a high-quality anti-allergic waterbed cover. Thanks to the special "medicott" finish of this cover for waterbeds, mites cannot settle on it, deposit allergy-causing faeces and cannot survive on the vinyl of the waterbed anyway. This cover for waterbeds is generally much more hard-wearing than other basic waterbeds from most manufacturers. Washable at up to 90 °C and even suitable for the gentle cycle of the tumble dryer, this high-quality waterbed cover guarantees you a long service life, in most cases even beyond the warranty period.
YKK zip for covers
Incidentally, since 2017, all bellvita waterbed covers have had a high-quality YKK zip that is interchangeable and standardised for our waterbeds. This means that they can be swapped and replaced without having to dismantle and reassemble the waterbed.
Further differences between the product lines
bellvita lightline
The bellvita lightline waterbed can usually be placed on existing slatted frames without any problems due to its low height and therefore low water volume. This means that these waterbeds do not require a special load-bearing base, as is the case with high-volume waterbeds. From the outside, you can't tell the difference between the low-volume bellvita lightline waterbed and the waterbeds in the other lines. On the inside, however, the water core is only around 5-8 cm high in a complete foam frame, which is also made of foam at the bottom and thus significantly reduces the weight of the waterbed in contrast to the high-volume waterbeds with a water core around 19-21 cm high. Only a maximum of 80-100 litres of water are required here and in the bellvita baby waterbed, which in contrast to the other waterbeds in the bellvita lightline is made with Mesamoll 2 softener, only approx. 30 litres of water are required, which makes this baby waterbed perfect for use in a cot.
bellvita classicline, silverline and premiumline
The bellvita silverline comes with a special Tencel natural fibre cover. This cover is almost twice as thick as the classicline cover, soft, breathable and therefore moisture-regulating. Thanks to the sewn-in silver threads, it is also highly antibacterial and particularly suitable for allergy sufferers. The unique organic eco-fibre of the Tencel waterbed cover is produced in an environmentally friendly way and absorbs considerably more moisture than conventional cotton and also releases it quickly back into the environment. This waterbed cover is comparable to a functional T-shirt for your restful sleep. Thanks to the silver technology in the silver threads used in production, mites and bacteria don't stand a chance. This silver finish ensures freshness and hygiene and has an excellent antistatic effect. The silverline waterbed cover from bellvita is also permanently elastic and of course compatible with all bellvita waterbeds thanks to a standardised zip. The bellvita premiumline cover is twice as thick as the silverline cover and is extremely moisture-regulating thanks to special silver threads on the top AND underside, as well as the 3D mesh fabric also used on the underside, which is also known as spacer fabric. In addition to the bellvita premiumline cover, which we recommend for winter due to its soft, cosy and extremely voluminous feel, a second summer changeable top cover for waterbeds from the high-quality bellvita silverline is often supplied (depending on the model).
In addition, the protective cover supplied with the premiumline - which almost completely prevents soiling on the waterbed and therefore makes cleaning much easier - is integrated between the top and bottom cover in a user-friendly way via a zip.
Softside waterbeds and frames
All bellvita waterbeds are softside waterbeds. This means that all our waterbeds have a 5 cm - 7 cm wide foam frame. Although this is of course no more uncomfortable than sleeping on a conventional mattress, waterbed sleepers over 190 cm should therefore opt for a 220 cm waterbed. In the premiumline waterbeds, a visco-elastic foam is incorporated into the top layer of the softside frame. This makes lying and sitting on the outer edge of the waterbed comfortable because it adapts to the body heat and also quickly straightens up again.
Thermal partition wall
In the bellvita premiumline and bellvita silverline, a dual waterbed - i.e. a waterbed with two chambers - has an air partition in the centre instead of a conventional thermal partition. This separates better than any conventional partition and its firmness can be varied via the air supply. This means that you always have optimum separation when your partner moves in the waterbed. Movements are hardly transferred to the other side of the bed and the thermal separation is separated by an air hose so that each waterbed sleeper can conveniently regulate the temperature of the heating system on their side individually using the digital control of the intelligent Carbon IQ heating system - cosy and warm in winter and pleasantly cool in summer. There is no annoying visitor crack in the waterbed, as this is closed by the partition wall, so you have a large lying surface despite the separate water mattresses in the waterbed.
Warranty and quality
Due to the high-quality materials, we grant a 10-year guarantee on bellvita silverline waterbeds, which you can extend to 12 years with regular service. The bellvita premiumline comes with a 12-year guarantee, which you can also extend to 15 years with regular servicing. However, the durability of our waterbeds is usually far longer than this period if they are cared for correctly with our bellvita care products for waterbeds.
